The Scene

The Dream
- To create a living museum of settler history in the Eastern Cape of South Africa from early 1700’s to late 1800’s.
- To create a Fort which replicates all the old forts in some way that were built in the Eastern Cape in that period
- To live exactly as the early settlers did as far as possible
The Job
4 weeks working adventure to include:
- Digging, building, carrying, etc. to build the Fort
- Baking, cooking, learning the laws of the veld, while gaining practical experience in the English language
- Learning how to track animals, conservation programmes, identify plants and birds, etc.
- Grooming the horses for daily use
The Language
- 4 weeks General English classes at Jeffreys Bay Language School
- Accommodation in beach front school residence (Dormitory)
